OLD EUROPE's Rich History:

|
Since opening its doors in 1948, Old Europe Restaurant has become a true landmark in Washington D.C. It enjoys a reputation as one of the finest restaurants in the Nation's Capital. Old Europe is recommended by Zagat's, AAA, Mobil Travel Guide, Washingtonian Magazine and many local newspapers. The Lichtenstein family opened the Old Europe with the idea of serving delicious European cuisine, offering the best international wines, and serving great German beer. In the early 1970's Karl Herold took over the reigns of Old Europe after working with the Lichtensteins for 10 years.

German Food and Culture 12 Months a Year
Throughout the year, the restaurant observes numerous festivals.
Live German music, food, wine, beer and spirits combine to bring a little bit of Germany
to our patrons. While "Spring Fever" at Old Europe means asparagus and May wine,
the heat of the summer months are made bearable by our offerings of delicate wheat beers,
our famous Summer Grillfest featuring grilled meats and seafood and, of course, our
wonderful refreshing chilled soups. When the leaves start to fall, we present
"Oktoberfest" when a rollicking Bavarian atmosphere prevails with Bock beer
and hearty peasant fare. The winter solstice is met with our wild game menu.
Venison, Wild Boar and Hassenpfeffer join savory cabbage, home-made soups and the tradtional
hot-mulled Burgundy called "Glühwein" to warm the body and gladden the heart.
Decor
Our interior is decorated in a decidely "old world" style and affords a delightful
ambiance in which the diner is temporarily transported back in time to the days of old Europe.
Antique steins, fine oil paintings and original works of art adorn the walls. We have related
the tastes, smells and sights of our fine restaurant but have neglected to mention our unique sound.
During the week, our main dining room is filled with the most beautiful piano music which is
performed by our very own pianist who is sure to know all your favorites.
